Initial Interviews with Clayton
Why These Interviews Matter
The earliest interviews provide important context and establish the initial facts presented to investigators before later reports and opinions were developed.

Interview #4 contains the SANE nurse's written summary of what she claims Clayton told her during a physical examination. The report later became one of the most heavily relied upon pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution.
However, several aspects of this interview have been challenged:

No audio or video recording was made, despite recording equipment being available at the Child Advocacy Center.

There were no independent witnesses present during the examination.

The report is based solely on the nurse's written recollection of the conversation.

The defense and multiple experts have disputed the accuracy and reliability of the report's contents.

In court testimony on July 31, 2019, the SANE nurse stated that Clayton showed no signs of physical trauma, neglect, or abuse during her examination. She further testified that she found no indication that Clayton was suffering from emotional or psychological trauma and did not recommend specialized follow-up care. The sexual assault examination reportedly revealed no physical evidence of assault.

These links are to the initial interview with Bill, Lisa, and Desiree the day that the day after Elijah's death -- interviews contain statements and observations from Detective Elliott regarding the investigation and events surrounding Clayton's case.
The Tulsa ME Report
The original autopsy in this case was conducted by the Tulsa Medical Examiner's Office. The report concluded that Elijah's death was a homicide and alleged evidence of sodomy.

Since the issuance of that report, multiple medical experts have reviewed the autopsy findings, records, imaging studies, and supporting evidence. Several of those medical experts have reached conclusions that differ significantly from the original report.
Among them is Dr. Carl Schmidt, Chief Medical Examiner for Detroit and a physician whose office is accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). After reviewing the evidence, Dr. Schmidt concluded that the findings cited in the original report did not support the conclusions reached by the Tulsa Medical Examiner.

The State and DHS also retained Dr. Robert Block, a highly respected pediatric medical expert, who independently reviewed the case materials. His findings likewise differed from the original autopsy conclusions. In his review, Dr. Block stated that the records reflected extensive efforts by Elijah's caregivers to address his ongoing medical and developmental challenges.

A third expert, Dr. John Grunow, an internationally recognized pediatric colorectal specialist, reviewed Elijah's pelvic x-rays. Dr. Grunow reported findings that he believed were inconsistent with the allegation of sodomy and noted evidence of significant stool retention that had not been addressed in the original autopsy report.

In total, five medical experts reviewed the evidence and challenged key conclusions contained in the original autopsy report. Visitors are encouraged to review the original report alongside the subsequent expert opinions, testimony, and supporting documents to evaluate the evidence for themselves.
